Dental porcelain repair: before and after images
Patient had previously placed 8 porcelain crowns, however due to her bite, clenching and grinding habit, she broke the porcelain crowns and had fractured the caps. It is important to note that patients with grinding or clenching habits, can break even porcelain, which is even stronger than the tooth enamel!
The ideal dental treatment was to change the broken crowns to new ones, but due to financial consideration, the patient elected to repair the porcelain crowns. Repairs of porcelain is a time consuming dental treatment, and requires the skill and knowledge to properly balance the bite.
The Broken crowns were repaired with a dental bond, the color and shape was matched to original crowns. Following the repair, the patient was advised to have a night guard made and to be worn in order to protect the repaired porcelain crowns.
Patient was happy with overalloutcome, and was advised to be on preventative dental care, scheduling a checkup every 3 to 4 months in order to manage any stains. Due to the fact that dental bond is made of composite material, which is porous, as opposed to porcelain, staining can happen depending on the patient’s dental habits.
The cost of porcelain tooth crown repair, or a porcelain veneer repair in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills can range anywhere from $500 to $1500 a tooth, depending on where the fracture is located, the skill and the expertise of the individual dentist.
Patient got punched in the mouth, trauma to face, and fractured two front veneers. One veneer was repaired using the existing porcelain veneer and placing dental bond to repair and shape the tooth, the other completely fractured veneer, was revitalized using full composite veneer dental bonding in office ( no laboratory fabrication was used). Patient could not be happier! the procedure for both took 45 minutes.
Patients with severe grinding or clenching habit can chip and fracture the porcelain restoration
In this case, due to para functional habits and grinding the patient fractured off the veneer at the gum area, Dr Mobasser restored the porcelain crack with dental bonding. The porcelain repair looks great again, due to color matching of the porcelain and feels great. There is no more bacterial leakage to the tooth under the porcelain veneer.
