Before & After Pictures – Porcelain Onlays
If your back tooth is cracked above the gum or requires a large filling, or you are a grinder or clencher, porcelain onlays and overlays are a great way to restore your tooth and avoid having a dental crown. Before and After photos of dental onlays are a major testament to the cosmetic dentist’s skill. Chances are that if you like the results in a dentist’s before and after pictures, you will be pleased with your own results.
The more healthy tooth structure is saved by your dentist, the longer you will keep your tooth. Tooth structure is irreplaceable, that is why the best dentists will prefer a porcelain inlay, onlay or overlay vs capping or placing a dental crown on the tooth. If for any unforeseen incident the porcelain onlay failed due to trauma or decay you can always have a dental crown made, but unfortunately if you already have a dental crown, you can never go back to a more conservative procedure such as porcelain onlays or overlays.
Below is showing a tooth that was broken, and patient did not want his tooth to be shaved down, conservative treatment was done with porcelain onlay , which is less invasive than other procedures such as dental crown.Patient was amazed that all his tooth problems was resolved within 2 days. Patient presented with decay and fractured cusps (cusps are needed to support your bite). Due to the loss of cusps a porcelain onlay was done. This conserved as much natural tooth structure as possible and alleviated the need for a radical approach of making a crown. The benefits of porcelain onlays are: retaining as much of the natural tooth as possible, less sensitivity, smooth feel to the tongue, very strong structure that does not fracture (unlike white fillings), color stability and the maintenance of patient’s bite.
