Aesthetic dentists are no longer found only in Beverly Hills or Manhattan . Nearly 60 percent are found in suburban America. This correlates with the 31 to 50 year olds in the suburbs who are busy commuting each day to the city.
IS COSMETIC DENTISTRY REALLY ON THE RISE?
Roughly 48 percent of dental practices reported earning $700,000 each year for cosmetic dentistry, with an average of $661,000 annually. A clear indicator of changing times is that a third of all practices reported more than 2,000 active patients spend an average of more than $400 per visit. Over a five-year period, nearly 40 percent of practices responding to the survey reported growth of over 15 percent in the number of aesthetic procedures performed.
MOST COMMONLY REQUESTED PROCEDURES
Teeth whitening was a clear leader, with 29 percent of patients requesting this relatively simple procedure. Yet it makes up only 6.5 percent of all cosmetic procedures performed. Preventative care still plays a large role, garnering 25.1 percent of all procedures.
CONCERNS
Patients primarily express concern about cost. One third of all survey respondents listed cost as the primary reason people decide not to have a smile makeover. Fortunately, patient financing is making cosmetic dentistry more accessible, with 81.1 percent of practices offering financial assistance or advice.
