Reconstructive Dentist deals with bite dimension, and possibly altering the distance between the chin and nose. This alteration is done to:

1)Improve esthetics and cosmetic by altering facial form/or tooth and gum display.

2)To gain space for restoring short worn out teeth., by increasing the occlusal vertical dimension., meaning making the back teeth longer, consequently creating space to make the front teeth longer.

There are several areas of concern,

First being TMJ (temporol mandibular joint), the literature is clear that in most cases if TMJ was comfortable before the procedure , then the joint will be comfortable with the altered length. Also the lack of back bite can significantly increase the load on the joints.

Second concern is the EFFECTS ON SPEACH, particularly the S sound.Usually in one to four weeks patients will learn to reprogram their speech patterns to any alterations, The COSMETIC AND RECONSTRUCTIVE DENTIST ,evaluate this clinically by simply having the patient say “66″ or “77″,and see if the front teeth touch during the sound, if so,usually shortening the front upper or lower teeth is indicated.

The RECONSTRUCTIVE ,or FULL MOUTH DENTISTRY , requires and interim period of temporization and observation in conjunction with evaluation before the final cosmetic teeth are fabricated.FULL MOUTH RECONSTRUCTION as the name implies is to redo all your teeth ,and give them a healthy cosmetic lift.FULL MOUTH RESTORATION DENTISTRY, may need ,porcelain veneers, or dental veneers, porcelain crowns , or caps, possible periodontal surgery, or gum surgery, dental implants, porcelain inlays  onlays, or veneer overlays or onlays and possibly orthodontics.

Teeth whitening or invisalign alone can not accomplish full mouth reconstruction. You can look at FULL MOUTH RECONSTRUCTION BEFORE AND AFTER PICTURES , in www.celebritydentist.com

DENTAL EMERGENCIES TIPS

Posted in Aesthetic Dentistry, Cosmetic Dentist, Dental Bonding, Dentist, Full Mouth Reconstruction, Porcelain, Porcelain Inlays & Onlays, TMD, TMJ, dental cosmetics, smile on August 5th, 2010 by admin

Lets face it, accidents can happen, and especially when it comes to our teeth, SMILE and mouths, they can be pretty frightening. Being careful is good a prevention, but being prepared makes you confident about and possible oral health emergency. Its important to know when home care will suffice and when a trip to the dentist is necessary. If you are ever in the situation that makes you feel like you need to speak with your dentist, call the office, your dentist should provide a day to night time number. If you call during non-business hours, voicemail will give instructions about how to reach the on-call dentist. With that in mind, here are some guidlines to help you through common situations:

Toothache/Sore Gums: Rinse with warm water to remove any food or debris; if you notice anything lodged between teeth, floss to remove it. Take an over the counter pain medication (but never apply the medication directly to teeth or gum), see the dentist if the pain persists.

Chipped or Broken Tooth: Save the pieces, if you can, rinse them thoroughly. Apply an ice pack or cold compress to the swollen lip or gum tissue near the chipped tooth to prevent swelling. If the area is bleeding, apply gauze for ten minutes, or until the bleeding has stopped. Call your cosmetic dentist immediately. You can possibly have a dental bonding , porcelain inlay or porcelain onlay treatment done to salvage your tooth.

With recent advancements in full mouth dentistry and cosmetic dentistry, you might not lose your tooth. If there’s enough remaining healthy tooth structure, there are several treatment options that may eliminate the need for root removal. While the success of these procedures depends on the severity of the break, it’s worth asking about options other than complete removal. I highly recommend you contact your cosmetic dentist.

Knocked Out Tooth: Depending on the situation, find the tooth, make sure not to hold it by the root, and rinse it briefly with warm water. If possible, gently reinsert the tooth into the socket and bite down on gauze or cloth to keep it in place. If you cannot reinsert it, place it in a container of milk or mild salt water solution. Call your cosmetic  dentist as soon as possible-if treated within 2 hours, the tooth may be salvaged.

Soft Tissue Injuries: Soft tissues such as gums, cheek, lips, and the tongue tend to bleed heavily, only because the tissue contains a great deal of blood flow. To control the bleeding, first rinse with warm, mild salt water solution. Apply pressure with gauze or a moistened towel for 15 to 20 minutes. Afterwards, to reduce swelling and help stop residual bleeding, apply a cold compress to the outside of your mouth. In the event of a serious soft tissue injury, in which the bleeding is profuse or the damage is visibly traumatic, its best to stay calm, keep applying pressure, and go to the emergency room.

How to Solve TMD, & TMJ DISORDER PROBLEMS

Posted in Aesthetic Dentistry, Cosmetic Dentistry, Esthetic Dentist, Full Mouth Reconstruction, Los Angeles, TMD, TMJ, tmj dentist on August 5th, 2010 by admin

Temporomandibular joint disorder, or TMJ, which affects the flexibility and function of the temporal jaw joint and surrounding muscles. Because this area controls bite, speech, chewing, and all other jaw movement, the pain can be severe and very inconvenient.

TMJ has been associated with a number of different causes, but the most common factor is the bite or occlusion itself.

A misaligned bite can place pressure on the jaw joint, forcing the muscles to work overtime in effort to correctly align the upper and lower jaws. this not only compromises the function of the jaw, but it can cause a good deal of fatigue and pain in the facial muscles. Headaches, Toothaches, and jaw clenching, popping, or locking are all common symptoms of TMJ.

TMJ can also occur after a jolting face injury which causes a normally aligned jaw joint to become damaged or repositioned.

In the meantime, alleviating the pain through treating the symptoms can give you some relief. Heating pads or cold compresses can reduce swelling, and limiting your jaw movement can stop the clicking or popping of the jaws. Massages can temporarily relive muscle tension, and medications can reduce inflammation and help you feel more comfortable.

The best way to solve tmj  or tmd discomfort is to find out the root cause of the TMD. In many cases it could be due to a  OCCLUSAL DISEASE, (bad bite), trauma, clenching and grinding. If the over the counter anti inflammatory medications does not alleviate the tmd symptom within couple of days, it is best to consult an expert dentist , or tmj dentist, to gather a complete dental history in conjunction with necessary xrays and impressions of your mouth to determine if it is an occlusal disease discomfort , and if so , what is the most conservative treatment modality.

TMJ JAW PAIN, & TMJ DISORDER TREATMENT

Posted in Dental Implants, TMD, TMJ on June 24th, 2010 by admin
before after

One of the causes of  TMJ pain and discomfort is missing teeth not restored, causing  domino effect on the bite, gums , spacing and gaps of  the teeth, and finally the tmj structure. The tmj disorder treatment starts with finding the etiologic factor causing the problem, and then eliminating the problem.
This Patient had tmj symptoms or TMD.
The reason was two folds:
First due to tooth loss in the back ,causing uneven forces on the bite ,when patient eating.,and
the second reason was due to CLENCHING teeth and BRUXING of  his teeth.,  notice the flaring of the teeth,( in the before picture),  and the
spacing and gaps on his teeth ,causing teeth movement, and un balanced biting forces on the rest of patients teeth, causing bite trauma (occlusal trauma),  tmj discomfort (tmj pain), and tmd.
Due to missing teeth ,and cosmetic smile wishes of the patient, the treatment consisted of FULL MOUTH RESTORATION (full mouth reconstruction)
using combination of PORCELAIN VENEERS,DENTAL TOOTH IMPLANT,implant dentistry in the back teeth, PORCELAIN CROWNS and
PORCELAIN BRIDGES.,all followed by a NIGHT GUARD to avoid fractures of the teeth or porcelain ,and maintaining the FULL MOUTH RESTORATION.
The end result is a happy, pain free individual,  which is priceless.

Snap On Smile, Pros and Cons

Posted in Aesthetic Dentist, Cosmetic Dentist, Cosmetic Dentist Los Angeles, Cosmetic Dentistry, Dentist, Esthetic Dentist, Los Angeles, Los Angeles Cosmetic Dentist, SNAP ON SMILE, Smile Makeover, TMD, TMJ on June 23rd, 2010 by admin

Snap on smile is a removable appliance that goes over the patients teeth, thus you can change the color and shape of teeth.

Having said that ,lets discuss pros and cons as it relates to cosmetic dentistry, performed by cosmetic dentist.

The PROS are: there is no anesthetic involved,it is reversible (if you do not like it ,you do not wear it),usually no drilling involved, dentist can use it as a diagnostic tool for the bite and possibly tmj (tmd),possibility of cosmetic enhancement when it is INDICATED,it can be a precursor to thin dental veneers, lumineers , or porcelain veneers,it can close spaces to a certain extent, overcoming DENTAL PHOBIA,possibly immediate dratification, it is a quick fix to get white smile ,and it is the fraction of the cost of placing 10 plus veneers.

the CONS can be the following:they are fragile,so they can fracture or break, since it goes over your teeth , they are going to appear BULKIER  than your teeth ,they will not have the same look as your natural teeth or a well made porcelain veneer, it is compromised smile makeover , it is not recommended for severe bruxer or clencher ,possibility of fracture does exist.,and it does not last as long of other cosmetic treatments.,it can interfere with phoentics and SPEECH,since they are longer than your own teeth and they are joined.,it is not indicated for people who like their existing length and width of their teeth ,and do not want them altered.

It is my opinion that the AESTHETIC DENTIST or the esthetic dentist should evaluate the patient ,take necessary records ,ask patient needs and wants ,then discuss all options, pros and cons to patient.

If you are interested further, please call 310-550-0383 for your indepth one to one consultation.,to see if snap on smile is for you.

Celebrity Smile Analysis: Tom Cruise

Posted in Beverly Hills, Beverly Hills Cosmetic Dentist, Cosmetic Dentist, Cosmetic Dentistry, Crowns, Dental Bonding, Full Mouth Reconstruction, Los Angeles, Los Angeles Cosmetic Dentist, Lumineers, Porcelain Veneers, Smile Makeover, TMD, TMJ on August 24th, 2009 by dranthonymobasser

Los Angeles Cosmetic Dentist Dr. Anthony Mobasser has performed thousands of smile makeovers since 1980. In that time, he has worked with a multitude of celebrities from around the globe, helping give them smiles that are the envy of the world. With his trained, artistic eye, he can instantly recognize what makes a smile so dazzling or identify what can be done to turn an average smile into a dazzling work of art.

Below are some of his thoughts on today’s celebrity smiles.

Tom Cruise . He has a wonderful, world-famous smile, but there are some things he could do to improve it. A combination of gum line pink bonding on the upper right canine tooth, and a thin porcelain veneers on the upper right side could give him a fuller smile. My philosophy is to keep your teeth for the rest of your life and use the most conservative minimal procedure possible when it comes to veneers. My suggestion to him is to add (not remove) a combination of bonding and porcelain veneers.

Answers to Commonly Asked Questions

Posted in Beverly Hills, Beverly Hills Cosmetic Dentist, Cosmetic Dentist, Cosmetic Dentistry, Crowns, Dental Bonding, Full Mouth Reconstruction, Los Angeles, Los Angeles Cosmetic Dentist, Lumineers, Porcelain Veneers, Smile Makeover, TMD, TMJ on July 1st, 2009 by dranthonymobasser

Cosmetic dentistry is growing in popularity every day. If you’re looking at having some cosmetic dental treatment done on your smile, no doubt you have many questions. Herewith we provide some answers.

COSMETIC DENTISTRY PROCEDURES
Many options are available these days, including permanent whitening, reshaping and contouring of the smile line, porcelain veneers (dental veneers) and more. Read our “procedures” articles for more details. You also may want to visit our “Services” site.

COSMETIC DENTAL COSTS
As with most customer services, the cost varies depending on the time required and the complexity of the dental cosmetic procedure. Creating your smile makeover may require a combination of the services listed above. The best way to determine price is to consult a Los Angeles cosmetic dentist as Dr. Anthony Mobasser. Keep in mind cosmetic dentistry is an investment in both your personal and professional future.

COSMETIC DENTISTRY BENEFITS
Surveys show 98 percent of Americans believe a person with a beautiful smile is more successful, more intelligent, more attractive, and much more. A great smile also makes patients feel more confident and ensures your teeth are healthy.

TIMELINE TO COMPLETE YOUR COSMETIC DENTISTRY
How many visits will it take to improve your smile? The timeline varies for each person, depending on the amount of work required. Some procedures can be completed in one or two visits. More extensive work may require up to six visits. Due to Dr. Mobasser’s expertise, rest assured that your cosmetic dentistry will be performed with the highest quality possible in the shortest amount of time. Whereas many cosmetic dentists require up to 10 visits to complete cosmetic dentistry procedures, Dr. Mobasser requires only two in most cases. The need for a complete, comprehensive evaluation and consultation is a must prior to starting treatment. Undergoing smile makeover may sound daunting, but the ease with which Los Angeles cosmetic dentist Dr. Anthony Mobasser performs his procedures, you’ll wonder why you didn’t start the treatment sooner. You are going to love your new smile!

APPEARANCE
Dr. Mobasser will collaborate with you to create the look you desire. He can create a smile enhancement that looks both natural and dramatic. Using photographs and models, Dr. Mobasser can show you how you’ll look with your new smile. In some cases, he can place trial materials (dental mockup) directly over your existing teeth so you can view the final results immediately.

LONGEVITY

Your makeover will last for many years if you practice good dental oral hygiene. This includes brushing, flossing, and preventive visits. Please note each patient requires different preventative visits in which Dr. Mobasser will let you know ahead of time due to plaque buildup, your past medical history, your past dental history, enzymes in your saliva, and the genetic factors relating to plaque buildup. Some patients may need checkups every 2-4 months, every 6 months, or every 12 months, depending on the plaque buildup.

COSMETIC DENTISTRY AND YOUR DENTAL INSURANCE
Not all dental insurance plans cover cosmetic dentistry. If they do, they will reimburse only a portion of the treatment. We can check in advance (after a complete analysis of your dental health) if your insurance does cover cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Mobasser can arrange a payment structure to best suit your needs.

TOOTH WHITENING
Please note many people are concerned that teeth whitening will damage their tooth enamel and cause permanent teeth sensitivity. On the contrary, teeth whitening causes no damage to your enamel. However, if you have gum disease, gum recession, or your roots are exposed, teeth whitening is not recommended due to causing severe sensitivity on the rooth of the tooth. In some cases that has been irreversible. That is why Beverly Hills cosmetic dentist Dr. Mobasser says that is pertinent to have a compelte evaluation before starting teeth whitening procedures. Dr. Mobasser does not recommend you use over-the-counter whitening products before you have complete examination and evaluation for root sensitivity and root recessions to avoid further damage.

While you may experience some sensitivity during the whitening process and for a brief time afterwards, the sensitivity should fade within one to two days following the procedure.
