Snap On Smile, Pros and Cons

Posted in Aesthetic Dentist, Cosmetic Dentist, Cosmetic Dentist Los Angeles, Cosmetic Dentistry, Dentist, Esthetic Dentist, Los Angeles, Los Angeles Cosmetic Dentist, SNAP ON SMILE, Smile Makeover, TMD, TMJ on June 23rd, 2010 by admin

Snap on smile is a removable appliance that goes over the patients teeth, thus you can change the color and shape of teeth.

Having said that ,lets discuss pros and cons as it relates to cosmetic dentistry, performed by cosmetic dentist.

The PROS are: there is no anesthetic involved,it is reversible (if you do not like it ,you do not wear it),usually no drilling involved, dentist can use it as a diagnostic tool for the bite and possibly tmj (tmd),possibility of cosmetic enhancement when it is INDICATED,it can be a precursor to thin dental veneers, lumineers , or porcelain veneers,it can close spaces to a certain extent, overcoming DENTAL PHOBIA,possibly immediate dratification, it is a quick fix to get white smile ,and it is the fraction of the cost of placing 10 plus veneers.

the CONS can be the following:they are fragile,so they can fracture or break, since it goes over your teeth , they are going to appear BULKIER  than your teeth ,they will not have the same look as your natural teeth or a well made porcelain veneer, it is compromised smile makeover , it is not recommended for severe bruxer or clencher ,possibility of fracture does exist.,and it does not last as long of other cosmetic treatments.,it can interfere with phoentics and SPEECH,since they are longer than your own teeth and they are joined.,it is not indicated for people who like their existing length and width of their teeth ,and do not want them altered.

It is my opinion that the AESTHETIC DENTIST or the esthetic dentist should evaluate the patient ,take necessary records ,ask patient needs and wants ,then discuss all options, pros and cons to patient.

If you are interested further, please call 310-550-0383 for your indepth one to one consultation.,to see if snap on smile is for you.

Cosmetic Dentist & Smile Makeover ,Golden Proprtions.

Besides the width of the tooth being %75 to %80 of the length,we also have a measurement generally to find out, what the length of the upper front tooth should be. How ? The cosmetic dentist or the Esthetic Dentist performing smile makeover should measure from the depth of the vestibule to the incisal edge of the front tooth, that measurement is usually around 22 milimeters (mm).,for ideal length of the upper front tooth,in which dictates your smile makeover initial stage.
Every patient should know that lighter teeth ,reveal bigger teeth, and darker teeth reveal smaller teeth! so just by teeth whitening, (bleaching teeth ),placing porcelain laminates or having porcelain veneers done ,automatically your teeth will look bigger and eventually your smile will be more zygomatic.
Because of this point mentioned ,i generally do not recommend having 6 teeth veneered ,or 6 (dental veneers )done. Your canine teeth already are bigger and darker than the rest of your teeth,if the patient changes the color to a more whiter desired color ,those 6 teeth will stick out like a sore thumb, and hides the rest of teeth, specially when you are looking at the smile from the side (the back teeth will look much smaller).
Having said that, it is vital that your cosmetic dentist ,plans your smile makeover by taking various photos and study models ,to plan the final outcome of your tratment.
Please do not hesitate to call us at 310-550-0383 to make your cosmetic ,one on one consultation appointment, with Dr. Anthony Mobasser.

Celebrity Smile Analysis: Tom Cruise

Los Angeles Cosmetic Dentist Dr. Anthony Mobasser has performed thousands of smile makeovers since 1980. In that time, he has worked with a multitude of celebrities from around the globe, helping give them smiles that are the envy of the world. With his trained, artistic eye, he can instantly recognize what makes a smile so dazzling or identify what can be done to turn an average smile into a dazzling work of art.

Below are some of his thoughts on today’s celebrity smiles.

Tom Cruise . He has a wonderful, world-famous smile, but there are some things he could do to improve it. A combination of gum line pink bonding on the upper right canine tooth, and a thin porcelain veneers on the upper right side could give him a fuller smile. My philosophy is to keep your teeth for the rest of your life and use the most conservative minimal procedure possible when it comes to veneers. My suggestion to him is to add (not remove) a combination of bonding and porcelain veneers.

Cosmetic dentistry is growing in popularity every day. If you’re looking at having some cosmetic dental treatment done on your smile, no doubt you have many questions. Herewith we provide some answers.

COSMETIC DENTISTRY PROCEDURES
Many options are available these days, including permanent whitening, reshaping and contouring of the smile line, porcelain veneers (dental veneers) and more. Read our “procedures” articles for more details. You also may want to visit our “Services” site.

COSMETIC DENTAL COSTS
As with most customer services, the cost varies depending on the time required and the complexity of the dental cosmetic procedure. Creating your smile makeover may require a combination of the services listed above. The best way to determine price is to consult a Los Angeles cosmetic dentist as Dr. Anthony Mobasser. Keep in mind cosmetic dentistry is an investment in both your personal and professional future.

COSMETIC DENTISTRY BENEFITS
Surveys show 98 percent of Americans believe a person with a beautiful smile is more successful, more intelligent, more attractive, and much more. A great smile also makes patients feel more confident and ensures your teeth are healthy.

TIMELINE TO COMPLETE YOUR COSMETIC DENTISTRY
How many visits will it take to improve your smile? The timeline varies for each person, depending on the amount of work required. Some procedures can be completed in one or two visits. More extensive work may require up to six visits. Due to Dr. Mobasser’s expertise, rest assured that your cosmetic dentistry will be performed with the highest quality possible in the shortest amount of time. Whereas many cosmetic dentists require up to 10 visits to complete cosmetic dentistry procedures, Dr. Mobasser requires only two in most cases. The need for a complete, comprehensive evaluation and consultation is a must prior to starting treatment. Undergoing smile makeover may sound daunting, but the ease with which Los Angeles cosmetic dentist Dr. Anthony Mobasser performs his procedures, you’ll wonder why you didn’t start the treatment sooner. You are going to love your new smile!

APPEARANCE
Dr. Mobasser will collaborate with you to create the look you desire. He can create a smile enhancement that looks both natural and dramatic. Using photographs and models, Dr. Mobasser can show you how you’ll look with your new smile. In some cases, he can place trial materials (dental mockup) directly over your existing teeth so you can view the final results immediately.

LONGEVITY

Your makeover will last for many years if you practice good dental oral hygiene. This includes brushing, flossing, and preventive visits. Please note each patient requires different preventative visits in which Dr. Mobasser will let you know ahead of time due to plaque buildup, your past medical history, your past dental history, enzymes in your saliva, and the genetic factors relating to plaque buildup. Some patients may need checkups every 2-4 months, every 6 months, or every 12 months, depending on the plaque buildup.

COSMETIC DENTISTRY AND YOUR DENTAL INSURANCE
Not all dental insurance plans cover cosmetic dentistry. If they do, they will reimburse only a portion of the treatment. We can check in advance (after a complete analysis of your dental health) if your insurance does cover cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Mobasser can arrange a payment structure to best suit your needs.

TOOTH WHITENING
Please note many people are concerned that teeth whitening will damage their tooth enamel and cause permanent teeth sensitivity. On the contrary, teeth whitening causes no damage to your enamel. However, if you have gum disease, gum recession, or your roots are exposed, teeth whitening is not recommended due to causing severe sensitivity on the rooth of the tooth. In some cases that has been irreversible. That is why Beverly Hills cosmetic dentist Dr. Mobasser says that is pertinent to have a compelte evaluation before starting teeth whitening procedures. Dr. Mobasser does not recommend you use over-the-counter whitening products before you have complete examination and evaluation for root sensitivity and root recessions to avoid further damage.

While you may experience some sensitivity during the whitening process and for a brief time afterwards, the sensitivity should fade within one to two days following the procedure.

Los Angeles Cosmetic Dentist Offers Advice on Selecting the Appropriate Colors for Porcelain Veneers

Posted in Beverly Hills, Beverly Hills Cosmetic Dentist, Cosmetic Dentist, Cosmetic Dentistry, Crowns, Dental Bonding, Full Mouth Reconstruction, Los Angeles, Los Angeles Cosmetic Dentist, Lumineers, Porcelain Veneers, Smile Makeover, TMD, TMJ on July 1st, 2009 by dranthonymobasser

Patients interested in porcelain veneers often wonder how white the veneers should be.

Teeth are not monochromatic, so using a variety of shades yields a natural look, said Dr. Anthony Mobasser, a Los Angeles dentist who specializes in cosmetic and reconstructive dentistry.

Some Background

First let’s address the obvious question and define porcelain veneers.

A porcelain veneer is a thin sheet of porcelain that can be affixed to the surface of a tooth to improve smiles by covering chipped, broken, stained or misshaped teeth. Porcelain is usually thought of as a delicate material, but when bonded to a tooth, it is incredibly strong and durable.

Selecting a Veneer Shade

Mobasser recommends patients undergo a teeth whitening treatment to whiten their natural teeth prior to placing porcelain veneers. Because veneers are extremely thin, a tooth that is dark or deeply stained could provide a shading effect once the veneers are affixed that causes the finished product to be darker than desired.

Why not choose a thicker porcelain veneer?

“The translucency of porcelain veneers gives them the ability to mimic natural tooth enamel and creates a natural appearance,” Mobasser said.

Using more than one color in making the veneers also provides variation and avoids teeth looking fake or artificial. Eye teeth tend to be darker than the others, while front teeth typically are the whitest. Molars most often are a shade between the two.

Another important factor to consider is the surface texture of porcelain veneers, Mobasser said. Adequate texture helps to break up light reflections and make the veneer look more natural.

There is no one standard system in the dental field to measure and determine tooth color, according to (http://www.aboutcosmeticdentistry.com/procedures/tooth_veneers/veneer_color.html) www.aboutcosmeticdentistry.com. The most often heard about, however, is the Vita shade guide. This guide divides tooth color into four basic shade ranges:

A (reddish brown)
B (reddish yellow)
C (gray)
D (reddish gray).

In the A range there are five levels of darkness. Ranges B, C and D each have four levels.

“When I evaluate a patient for porcelain veneers, I am concerned with getting the optimum results,” Mobasser said. “In addition to considering the color of the patient’s natural teeth, I also evaluate their complexion, hair color, and to some extent, their eye color. It is important to me that a feature as dominant as a smile compliments all of their other facial features.”

Porcelain Veneers Change Smiles in Just Two Visits

Posted in Beverly Hills, Cosmetic Dentist, Cosmetic Dentistry, Crowns, Dental Bonding, Full Mouth Reconstruction, Los Angeles, Lumineers, Porcelain Veneers, TMD, TMJ on July 1st, 2009 by dranthonymobasser

The numbers say it all: Three out of four adults in the United States believe an unattractive smile can hurt your professional and personal lives. As the saying goes, “Smile and the whole world smiles with you

Uneven, chipped or discolored teeth are the easiest dental flaws to spot. The application of porcelain veneers , however, can replace those flaws with assets.

While no cosmetic dentistry procedure can take the place of good oral and periodontal hygiene, porcelain veneers can give you a youthful and dazzling smile.

A porcelain veneer is a thin shell of porcelain that fits over any damaged, discolored, or misshaped teeth. There are several advantages to this procedure:

•  The color, translucence and texture of veneers is very similar to your natural tooth enamel.

•  Porcelain is an extremely durable material.

•  It resists staining and isn’t susceptible to decay

•  Veneers can effectively close gaps between your teeth, lengthen and reshape teeth.

Dr. Anthony Mobasser, known as the Aesthetic dentist to the Stars,” will begin by discussing with you the changes you’d like to make in your appearance. He’ll fully explain your various options, the procedure, and its risks and limitations. You’ll also learn about the type of anesthesia required and the details of your fees.

The procedure begins with roughening and shaping your existing teeth, to remove part of the tooth enamel. This allows for a better bonding, while creating room for placement of the veneer.

Once shaping is completed, Dr. Mobasser will take an impression of your teeth, to be used in creating your customized veneers. He also may recommend applying a temporary veneer to protect your teeth until the next step.

At your next appointment, Dr. Mobasser will test your veneers to make sure they are the right fit, size and color. If needed, he may further shape or trim the veneers before the final fitting. He’ll then permanently bond the porcelain veneer to your teeth with a composite-resin cement.

The best candidates for porcelain veneers:

  • Enjoy good oral health
  • Wish to improve their appearance
  • Are fully informed on the procedure’s outcome
  • Have realistic expectations

How to Choose a Cosmetic Dentist

Posted in Beverly Hills, Cosmetic Dentist, Cosmetic Dentistry, Crowns, Full Mouth Reconstruction, Los Angeles, Lumineers, Porcelain Veneers on June 4th, 2009 by dranthonymobasser

“The shortest distance between two people is a smile.” – Anonymous

How to Choose a Cosmetic Dentist

Your smile is a self-confidence and emotional booster. A perfect smile can not only affect your self-esteem, but also how people perceive you, both personally and professionally. When you choose to improve your appearance through cosmetic dentistry, it is absolutely essential to choose a skilled, artistic cosmetic dentist who can bring out the best in your smile. In fact, cosmetic dentistry performed by an expert cosmetic dentist can take 10 years off your appearance and make you more complete.

So, how do you find the right cosmetic dentist?

You should choose your cosmetic dentist based on his or her training, education, confidence, and how many years he or she has been practicing cosmetic dentistry. Also, you should become informed about how often the doctor performs the specific procedure you want. As an added precaution, you should investigate whether your cosmetic dentist has claims against him or her with respect to the procedure you are considering or with respect to other cosmetic dentistry treatment.

The Consultation

When you visit your cosmetic dentist for a consultation, you should ask the following questions:

1. How long have you been performing this specific cosmetic procedure?
2. How many times have you performed this procedure? How many in the past year?
3. What are the pros and cons for this procedure?
4. What are the risks and benefits of this procedure?
5. Are there any other options I may have?
6. How many of your patients had to redo, revise, or correct this procedure again?
7. May I review before and after pictures?
8. Do I have any choices regarding performing the procedure via IV sedation, oral sedation, or with the help of an anesthesiologist so I do not feel anything?
9. May I talk with patients of yours who have had the same procedure as the one I’m interested in?
10. Do you have your own master ceramist and do you do custom work on the color and shape of this specific procedure?
11. Are my gums in satisfactory health before I start this cosmetic procedure? (Periodontal disease can compromise the final outcome of any cosmetic procedure!)
12. How many visits and how much time are required to complete this procedure?
13. Are there any further costs besides the costs of the procedure itself
14. How do I maintain my cosmetic dentistry investment?
15. Are there any compromises as far as my dental health (my roots, my gums, and my bone) that I should be aware of?

When you visit for a consultation, also inquire about the methods and technology of your cosmetic dentist. Make sure your cosmetic dentist is accumulating all the necessary diagnostic records before presenting you with a treatment plan. There is no substitute for having all the information related to your oral cavity. Any shortcuts can lead to improper treatment and a less-than-perfect outcome. Dr. Anthony Mobasser’s record-taking includes, but is not limited to, the following:

• Comprehensive examination including your periodontal pocket
• Complete full-mouth X-rays
• Complete diagnostic impressions with study casts
• Complete bite analysis
• Intra-oral photos of your teeth showing your teeth’s original color, any rotations, any asymmetry on your teeth and the gums, any grinding, and the comparison ratios of the size of your teeth.

The above is necessary to present the patient with an ideal cosmetic treatment. Besides these diagnostics, Dr. Mobasser goes through a 20-point checklist and uses Leonardo Da Vinci’s Principle of Divine Proportion to analyze ideal teeth ratios and giving the patient a harmonious smile.. An excellent cosmetic dentist is also one who takes into consideration your lips and gums as well as your teeth when analyzing your complete smile.

You can also ask your cosmetic dentist, if possible, to provide you with a mockup. A mockup is a temporary, in-office example of how your smile will look after your procedure (Dr. Mobasser usually uses bonding material to show his patients how their final porcelain veneers might look). For a fee, you can even request a full-mouth diagnostic wax-up of your teeth and your bite. Dr. Anthony Mobasser believes that you should not pick your cosmetic dentist by price only. The old cliché applies: you get what you pay for. Dr. Mobasser believes that if you get the smile you want, then the positive outcome is priceless.

Your cosmetic dentist should share with you, in detail, the results of the diagnosis and treatment plan. If you have any questions, your cosmetic dentist should be able to answer them satisfactorily, in order to provide the best possible treatment.

American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry

When looking for a cosmetic dentist to transform your smile, make sure you pick one who is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). The AACD accepts as members only those dentists who have met a standard of excellence in education, training, and ethics. AACD-accredited dentists must also pass a rigorous examination before acceptance in the academy.
World-class cosmetic dentists also keep up on their education. When considering a cosmetic dentist, ask about his or her training, where they received their degrees, what seminars they attend or lecture, and what articles they publish.

Please see Dr. Mobasser’s published articles.

Referrals

Referrals are an excellent method of finding an artistic cosmetic dentist. A first-hand account of the dentist’s chair-side manner, artistic capability, and knowledge of the field is an invaluable testimonial to the dentist’s quality and ability. Also, find out what patient comforts are provided.

At Dr. Mobasser’s Los Angeles cosmetic dentistry practice, patients can request a variety of comforts to make the visit more pleasing and relaxing. For patients who don’t like to sit in a crowded waiting room, they can request to be the only patient Dr. Mobasser sees that day. This kind of personal attention is what makes Dr. Mobasser a world-renowned cosmetic dentist, with patients from Asia, Europe, Africa, and other far-flung corners of the globe flying in especially for his unique brand of patient care.

Before and After Photos

Before and after photos are powerful examples of the cosmetic dentist’s work. When consulting with a cosmetic dentist, be sure to look at the patient “before and after” photos. Reputable dentists will have a collection of before and after photos, showcasing their talent and work history. Also, be sure to look at photos of patients who have undergone the procedure you are considering. Look for the dentist’s attention to detail and artistic abilities. If you are impressed with the results you see, then you will most likely be impressed with your own final outcome.
