World-famous Los Angeles Cosmetic Dentist Dr. Anthony Mobasser

Dr. Anthony Mobasser has practiced cosmetic dentistry, full-mouth reconstruction, porcelain veneers, crowns, bridges, and a host of other dental treatments in Los Angeles for 29 years. Over that time, Dr. Mobasser has perfected his dental technique to create beautiful smiles for countless celebrities. They trust him to give them the absolute best in cosmetic dentistry because they know he cares about every smile as if it were his own.

Health First

What makes him stand out as a cosmetic dentist is that he does comprehensive records to come up with a unique diagnosis of the patient first before designing his treatment plan. For instance, if the gums are infected or have periodontal or gum disease, then he will not perform cosmetic dentistry until the gums are healthy. Cosmetic dentistry in an unhealthy mouth can lead to recurrent cavities, loose teeth, weak roots, and an unbalanced occlusion, or bite.

Dentists who perform cosmetic dentistry without making sure the patient’s dental health is good run the risk of complications and failure of the final outcome. That’s why, as a Los Angeles dentist, Dr. Mobasser makes sure his patients dental health is good before any cosmetic procedures are done.

What Makes a Perfect Smile

When he looks at a patient’s mouth, he can envision the final smile he wants to create and knows what needs to be done. Symmetry and tooth color, the angle of the teeth, and shape is tremendously important. He checks for symmetry with the gum line and the lip to see what the cosmetic smile will look like. Balanced occlusion or bite is tremendously to the final outcome of the case.

Other elements of a pleasing smile could include the following:

  • For a younger smile outcome, do the two front teeth have central dominance, meaning they stand out a little more than the rest of the teeth?
  • When smiling, upper teeth must be parallel to the lower lip line.
  • On the sides of the smile, there should be no black (empty) spaces when the person smiles.
  • All together, Dr. Mobasser has a 21-point checklist to gauge the smile and craft a treatment plan that takes a person’s unique measurements into consideration, for the final outcome.

    His Profession

Cosmetic dentistry, to Dr. Mobasser, is more than just perfecting someone’s smile. Dr. Mobasser considers the opportunity to turn a mediocre smile into a dazzling smile gives him the pleasure and an energy boost to work harder to create more joy and happiness for his patients.

A healthy mouth increases a person’s esteem and makes them feel good about themselves and have more joy in their life.

“I helped one patient with her smile 22 years ago, and when I see her today, I take tremendous satisfaction that she is still happy with the results of my work,” Dr. Mobasser said. “That’s what I love about my profession as a cosmetic dentist. I know that when I see someone’s smile, I know that their life has changed for the better. I love what I do.”

    Cosmetic Dentist to the Stars

Posted in Cosmetic Dentistry on May 5th, 2009 by dranthonymobasser

How to keep your cosmetic dental work as sparkling as the day you came out of your cosmetic dentist’s office? In this article are some suggestions for you and your dentist on how to keep your smile looking priceless.

    In the Dentist’s Chair

Power polishing equipment. In certain situations, power polishing equipment can have the opposite of its intended effect. When your dentist uses power polishing equipment on your natural teeth, the result is a whiter, brighter smile. But, when you use that same equipment on porcelain or a composite, then you run the risk of roughening the porcelain surface, and being prone to further stains. If the treatment was done by a skilled cosmetic dentist, a diamond polish can improve the porcelain surface and bring back the porcelain’s luster.

Regular pumice polish. This type of polish also has a whitening effect on your regular teeth, but can cause scratches on composite bonding. This happens because pumice polish uses sodium bicarbonate, which can scuff the surface of porcelain or a composite. Patients with porcelain veneers should be cautious because this mixture can wear down the composite attaching the veneer to the tooth itself at the gum juncture. Instead of regular pumice polish, fine aluminum oxide should be used to clean the surface of the veneers or other cosmetic dental work with an intermittent low-speed handpiece.

Fluoride treatments. Fluoride treatments has a positive benefit of reversing sensitivity of root surfaces of the teeth and anti-cariogenic effects but must be used with caution as well. If not used properly, fluoride treatments can make porcelain veneers more vulnerable to staining. Fluoride treatments contain hydrofluoric acid, which can remove the color from porcelain crowns, veneers, and porcelain bridges, as well as scratch them. To guard against these problems, your cosmetic dentist should use sodium fluoride compound, (such as PreviDent 5000 Plus) as opposed to stannous fluoride (such as Gel Kam).

Please call Dr. Anthony Mobasser at 310.550.0383 or email him at Anthony@celebritydentist.com if you experience any problems with your cosmetic dentistry treatments.

    Preventative Visits to Your Dentist

For patients to preserve their gums and the bone surrounding their cosmetic treatment, it is highly recommended to have preventative visits with your cosmetic dentist every four months (three times a year). If preventative visits are missed, then there is a possibility of recurrent decay, periodontal disease, etc., which can jeopardize your cosmetic treatment. Your porcelain crown, veneer, or bridge will not decay. However, the root and the surrounding structure are prone to get carious and cause decay underneath the supporting structure of your restoration. Should this happen, it may cause an unnecessary treatment to redo your porcelain crown, veneer, or bridge.

    Cost of Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry treatment is an investment by itself. However, the maintenance costs of cosmetic dentistry are negligible compared to the costs of the initial dental treatment. For this reason, it is very cost-effective to keep up your preventative visits (3-4 times yearly) because the benefits outweigh the costs a hundredfold.

The Don’ts of Cosmetic Dentistry Maintenance

To preserve and protect your cosmetic dental work, it’s important to follow the below guidelines.

Don’t…use abrasive toothpaste. Abrasive toothpaste can be too harsh for cosmetic dental work. More recommended is the use of low-abrasive toothpaste that gently dissolves stains; your cosmetic dentist should recommend the right toothpaste depending on your gingival (gum) condition and your oral flora.

Don’t…clench or grind your teeth. Also known as bruxism, grinding your teeth can undo your cosmetic dental work in a relatively short amount of time. If you find yourself clenching your teeth, it is a must for your cosmetic dentist to fabricate a custom-fitted night guard to protect your cosmetic dental treatment. , The night guards come in soft, hard, or semi-hard material. Please ask your cosmetic dentist which one is best for you.

Don’t…snack throughout the day. Frequent snackers tend to build up plaque more, as they constantly bombard their mouths with food particles that can get stuck between the teeth. To prevent plaque buildup, eat three regular meals a day while drinking plenty of water to clean your mouth of food debris. In some instances, chewing sugarless gum can also reduce plaque around the teeth. Also, if your cosmetic dentistry treatment involved full-surface bonding covering the edges of your teeth, caution should be taken not to bite on hard objects such as pens, pencils, ice cubes, or paperclips. This can fracture the bond.

A Little Da Vinci in Your Porcelain Crowns and Zirconium Bridges

Posted in Cosmetic Dentistry on May 5th, 2009 by dranthonymobasser

Los Angeles-Cosmetic Dentistry has a true artist in Dr. Anthony Mobasser. The Los Angeles dentist incorporates Leonardo Da Vinci’s principle of Divine Proportion when he uses zirconium crowns and bridges to rehabilitate his patients’ smiles, many of which belong to famous celebrities.

“Many dentists don’t understand that cosmetic dentistry requires a real artist’s eye,” Dr. Mobasser said. “Using Da Vinci’s principle, I can harmonize your natural beauty with the zirconium crown or bridge.”

Chipped, misaligned or broken teeth can be transformed by Dr. Anthony Mobasser, using Da Vinci’s principle to bring the facial features into alignment. The principle, also known as the Golden Ratio, follows the below guidelines.

  • Does the face divide horizontally into thirds?
  • Does the width and the length of your four front teeth follow the proportions of 1.6 to 1?
  • Can vertical lines be drawn from the pupil to a corner of the mouth?
  • Does the face divide vertically into fifths (5x the width of one eye)?
  • Does the lower third of the face divide into thirds (nose to chin)?
  • To complete his dental masterpieces, Dr. Anthony Mobasser uses high-quality zirconium crowns and bridges. Zirconium is known for its high functionality, strength, and artistic features, just like Procera crowns, which are less prone to fracture. These materials are particularly beneficial to patients who grind or clench their teeth, making them less prone to fractures if the opposing teeth already have zirconium crowns.

“Zirconium’s durability and aesthetic qualities are unmatched if used by a skilled, artistic cosmetic dentist,” Dr. Mobasser said.

What sets Dr. Mobasser apart is his artistic approach to cosmetic dentistry. He looks at each patient’s unique qualities and then crafts his cosmetic treatment to bring out their best features. And it’s not just the patients who benefit.

“The ability to turn a badly broken down mouth into a healthy mouth is one of the most gratifying services I can offer,” Dr. Mobasser said. “It changes the patients’ lives.”
