Alternative dentistry practice considers the impact on your health of fluoride, the use of silver mercury (amalgam) fillings and the affects of potentially toxic materials, among others.
Also known as alternative dentistry or biological dentistry, holistic dentistry addresses the:
• Whole person care of the mouth;
• Use of nontoxic dental restorative materials;
• Replacement of toxic metals using accepted treatment protocols;
• Emphasis on immune system support; and
• Microbiological control of gum infections.
Specific alternative methods include:
• Maintaining a nutrient-dense, whole-food diet;"
• Avoiding mercury fillings;
• Orthodontic approaches that include widening the palate; and, when extracting teeth, avoid leaving the jawbone with cavities that can promote infection.
Holistic Dentistry also applies to anesthesia, a primary component of many dental procedures. Traditional dentistry uses stronger forms of anesthesia than found in natural pain killers.
Acupuncture has become a popular method to dull or eliminate pain.
